Our crappy Christmas decorations

All right, here it is.  I'm going to be completely honest...I love Christmas; I love everything about it and one of my favorite parts is putting up all the decorations; but this year my little grabby grabber-sons have taken most of the joy out of it!  They've actually done a pretty good job of leaving the mantle stuff alone.
This is our seriously pathetic tree.  Normally I love putting up the tree and spend a good amount of time putting on all the decorations and making it "perfect."  This year I swore I wasn't even going to put the tree up until Christmas Eve to save my sanity...but I seriously couldn't stand it!  I love being able to see our twinkling lights from outside and the pretty glow in our front room too much.  So last week we put up our tree and it sat bare of decorations till last night.  Sam kept saying, "We at least have to have a star on it," and I could no longer stand it either.  So last night I let the kids put all the decorations on the tree, mainly I let them do it because they were going to have it rearranged 20 times before Christmas anyways, and partly because they had so much fun doing it.  As you can see there is no rhyme or reason to it and the bottom half has no decorations at all.  This is a huge symbolism of my life right now...not a whole heck of a lot of rhyme or reason...schedule.  Spots bare, due to crazy children...some things I'd like to be doing are put on the back burner.  Children taking over... relinquishing my semblance of control. Most of this is joking, but it does have a hint of truth.  Seriously though, I wouldn't trade my crazy, wonderful life with anyone or for anything, except maybe a whole day to do whatever the heck I felt like without any interruptions..kidding, only kidding!!!!  And hey, I'm sure your lives are just as crazy, if not more, than mine anyways!
Our piano is chuck full of nativities.  This is Maggie's favorite part.  She rearranges these daily, and has hours of fun playing out little scenes with them all.  As you can see, the little people set is missing the baby Jesus right now because she plays with them all over the place!
So how does it work at your house?  Do your kids touch all your stuff, or are they perfect angels that don't get into anything???  (Let me just put it out there, that no amount of spanking seems to make a difference with these two little turds!)  Also, does it make me a bad mom that I have little desire to do the fun stuff?  Poor Sam and Maggie!

I am so glad you finally put your tree up. I love the lights glow too. Hope you all get feeling better so you can come to the family party. My kids can't wait to see your kids, and maybe you too!

Haha...in my new motherhood status, i went to a play date and one of the moms there was super upset.
Apparently, her little boy has destroyed many ornaments.

it me kind of hard that my beloved ornaments would soon be smashed...i'm still not sure what to do about it!

Hope you all feel better soon! My mom always had unbreakable ornaments and let us kids decorate the tree every year. I always remembered that. We never had a "perfect" tree but we loved it!

Of course our tree remains completely undecorated, and the only decorations in our house are the wreath and christmas lights outside (because the babies can't get those). Maybe by Christmas Eve... maybe for Christmas Eve. For now, we just roll with it.

My little angels do get into everything. Somehow, we managed a tree last year with Harley (his is our most challenged listener) and only ended up with a couple of broken bulbs. This year Ella did very good today, I only had to remind her a couple of times. The kids did most of the decorating (including Ella) maybe that got it all out of their systems. The one problem we do have is that there is candy on our tree. My two little addicts (Ella and Harley) want to be eating the candy canes ALL of the time. By the way, besides the bottom half of the tree, all your decorations are so cute. I love the Christmas trees on your mantel. I know what you mean about not wanting to do the fun stuff. It is exhausting to try and do anything and there is always, at least at my house, the possibility of it turning into a kicking screaming tantrum with at least one of them and making it no fun for anyone. It's about the memories and experiences though and they don't all have to be perfect as long as we tried I think we get credit. That is the end of my epic comment ... oops

Oh my gosh, that's hilarious. Every day I wonder why I put up a Christmas tree! It seems every 2 minutes I'm telling Jacob "no" to pulling off the lights, beads and ornaments. Too bad he has no idea what "no" means yet! :) It's still fun, though. You have to have a tree at Christmas time!
